Porcelain Veneers in Portland

Custom Porcelain Veneers With Bite-Aware Planning

We provide porcelain veneers for people who want to change the visible color, shape, size, spacing, or proportion of selected teeth. At , planning considers more than appearance. We evaluate your gums, tooth wear, bite, jaw joints, muscle function, facial balance, and overall dental condition before recommending treatment.

Porcelain veneers are thin ceramic shells bonded to the front surfaces of teeth. They may address discoloration, minor chips, small gaps, cracks, irregular proportions, or poorly shaped teeth. Dr. Maryam Motlagh brings post-doctoral cosmetic dentistry training and more than two decades of experience researching and treating occlusion-related concerns to the planning process.

Are Porcelain Veneers Right for Your Smile?

Candidacy depends on your cosmetic goals and the health of your teeth, gums, and bite. Veneers may be considered for one tooth, several teeth, or a broader smile makeover. Because each restoration is custom planned, we consider how the proposed changes may complement your facial structure and surrounding teeth.

Some dental concerns need attention before cosmetic treatment begins. Active decay, gum disease, significant tooth wear, uncontrolled clenching or grinding, and an unstable bite may affect whether veneers are appropriate. They aren’t a substitute for treating an underlying oral health or functional problem.

Our comprehensive evaluation may include:

  • Reviewing your dental history and smile goals.
  • Examining your teeth, existing restorations, and gum health.
  • Assessing tooth-wear patterns and available enamel.
  • Considering your bite, jaw joints, and muscle function when relevant.
  • Discussing suitable cosmetic and restorative alternatives.

How We Plan & Place Custom Veneers

Treatment begins with a consultation and examination, not a predetermined cosmetic package. We discuss which teeth concern you, what you want to change, and which features you’d like to preserve. We then select the shade, shape, size, and proportion in relation to your smile and facial structure.

The process commonly includes impressions or digital scans, custom fabrication, and an evaluation of each veneer’s appearance and fit before bonding. We may make adjustments during this evaluation. The number of stages varies with the teeth involved and the complexity of the treatment plan.

Creating space for a veneer may require removing a small amount of enamel. Because this preparation can make treatment irreversible, we explain the proposed approach, alternatives, maintenance needs, and relevant risks before you decide whether to proceed.

What Veneers Can & Can’t Correct

Veneers can conceal certain visible imperfections, but they don’t solve every cosmetic or structural concern. The right treatment depends on tooth strength, the extent of damage, alignment, gum health, bite forces, and your priorities.

Depending on the examination, we may discuss:

  • Cosmetic bonding: Tooth-colored material for selected chips, gaps, or shape changes.
  • Dental crowns: Restorations that cover more tooth structure when strength and appearance both need attention.
  • Clear aligners: Orthodontic treatment for tooth-position concerns that shouldn’t be masked with veneers.
  • Teeth whitening: Color improvement when changes to tooth shape or proportion aren’t needed.
  • Gum contouring: Treatment for concerns involving the visible gumline.
  • Restorative care: Options such as implants, bridges, or full-mouth reconstruction for missing or extensively damaged teeth.

Cosmetic and restorative dentistry sometimes overlap. We recommend an individualized plan that considers both the appearance of your smile and the dental condition supporting it.

How to Care for Porcelain Veneers

Veneers require consistent oral hygiene and ongoing dental care. Brush with fluoride toothpaste, clean between your teeth daily, and attend recommended dental visits. Although dental porcelain is generally stain-resistant, nearby natural teeth can still change color over time.

Don’t use veneered teeth to open packaging, bite your fingernails, or hold objects. Hard foods and excessive force may contribute to chipping, cracking, or loosening. If you clench, grind, or participate in contact sports, we can determine whether a mouthguard is appropriate.

Porcelain veneers may eventually require repair or replacement. Their condition over time depends on your bite, oral habits, hygiene, dental health, and other case-specific factors. Through ongoing preventive, cosmetic, and restorative care, we can monitor your veneers and the health of the teeth beneath them.

Find Out Whether Porcelain Veneers Fit Your Smile

Dr. Motlagh or Dr. TerryLynn Tennant can evaluate your smile goals, oral health, and bite before recommending treatment. During your consultation, we can explain the potential benefits, limitations, alternatives, maintenance needs, and financial considerations so you can make an informed decision. If your case would benefit from additional perspectives, we can coordinate multidisciplinary planning. We also offer sedation options for select procedures if you need additional support with dental anxiety.
